Attention: Pearland Farms, Orchard Glen and Canterbury Park Residents
On Jan. 29, 2018, the City of Pearland will be temporarily changing the drinking water disinfection process from chloramines to free chlorine. This change is intended to benefit our customers by removing a nitrifying film from the distribution and residential water systems, while maintaining required disinfection levels.

The use of free chlorine is a routine distribution system maintenance procedure conducted by utilities that use chloramines as a means of primary disinfection. However, the change to free chlorine can cause problems for people dependent on dialysis equipment. If you have at home medical care, it is appropriate to contact your doctor or medical provider to discuss any adjustments that need to be made to equipment in advance of this process. Medical facilities should also determine if additional precautions are required for other medical equipment.

If you have a fish tank, or aquatic animals, please make sure that the chemicals or filters that you are using are designed for use in water that has been treated with free chlorine. When the chlorinated water first displaces the chloraminated water there may be changes in taste and odor, as well as water discoloration for a short period of time. This process will not cause adverse health effects, as the water will continue to meet Federal and State standards for safe
drinking water.

The City intends to return to chloramines for disinfection on or about Feb. 26, 2018. Additional information will be provided if there are any changes in this anticipated schedule. A meeting is scheduled for Jan. 17, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center located at 4141 Bailey Rd. Pearland Texas 77584, in the multipurpose room to discuss the process in detail.
