Southeast Harris Community Coalition, Pasadena Community Coalition, and Brazoria County Community Coalition are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency, local law enforcement, and other community partners to participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 30th. This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Typical methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards. Take-Back events give citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted medications conveniently and anonymously.

In the previous nine Take-Back events nationwide from 2010-2014, 5.5 million pounds—more than 2,750 tons—of pills were removed from circulation. You can help prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted medications.

Since 2010, BACODA participated in Take Back in various cities across Brazoria County, Matagorda County, and Southeast Harris County, and more than 5 tons (10,607 pounds) of medication have been collected for safe disposal.

Be SAFE and help protect our environment, waterways and families by bringing unwanted medications to the FREE Prescription Drug Take Back in your community. Thanks to the DEA and our community partners for making the Take Back possible!
