Project Spotlight showcases recently completed Community Service Projects
January 2020 - 21 volunteers from Turner High School participated in a project to water newly installed trees at the Dolores Fenwick Nature Center. An estimated 73.5 hours were spent by the students in watering the trees from the surrounding ponds.
October 2019 - New tee signs, posts, and trash receptacles were installed and general maintenance was performed on existing baskets and tee areas by the Bayou City Disc Golf Club at Centennial Park.
September 2019 - Eagle Scout candidate Tyler Keller's team repaired and painted portions of the Veterans Sports Complex wooden fence in September. It took 30 volunteers approximately 4 hours to complete the project.
August 3, 2019 - Houston's Emery/Weiner High School football team provided 29 volunteers to lay sod at the Independence Park dog park. The Parks & Natural Resources Division had the sod delivered and a Parks liaison met the group at the park. This is the third year the team has stopped in Pearland on their return trip from training in Alvin to complete a team building exercise.
August 3, 2019 - A group of volunteers watered young trees, picked up “bog balls” and trash along the ponds at the John Hargrove Environmental Complex for two hours Saturday morning. The volunteers watered over 100 trees. Supplies were provided by the volunteers (gloves, trash bags, some buckets), meaning the project did not cost the City any funds. Many thanks to the volunteers for taking the time to maintain a healthy environment at the John Hargrove Environmental Center.
