About The Natatorium Recapitalization Project
The Natatorium will be closed from July 1, 2024, with an anticipated reopening date of September 23, 2024. During this time, the recreation center will remain open, so you can continue to enjoy other amenities. This project will address several critical infrastructure needs, including:
- Removal, refinish, and re-installation of existing pool bulkhead units
- Installation of new gas heaters for both the competition and activity pools
- Replastering of the competition pool
- Replacement of the liquid chemical treatment system with a safer, commercial tablet-based system
- Replacement of the ultraviolet sanitation system
- Replacement of the existing mechanical system for main filtration
Additionally, the replacement of the existing Dectron Air Handling unit will take place concurrently with the recapitalization project. The necessary lead time needed to order and receive the equipment and products for the recapitalization project made July 1 the ideal start date. This start date allows us to begin both projects simultaneously, preventing the need for two separate closures.
These improvements are essential for maintaining and improving our facility, and we appreciate your understanding and patience during this period.
To compensate for the closure, we have made several adjustments to our membership plans. All currently active RCN Annual and Natatorium Only memberships will receive a complimentary 3-month extension. Additionally, Natatorium-Only members will have extended access to the Recreation Center while the Natatorium is closed. Seasonal (3-Month) memberships purchased in May 2024 will receive a 1-month extension. For all other active monthly memberships, we will apply a 50% discount for the months of July, August, and September.
Additionally, during the closure, Swim-Passes, Natatorium Only, and Seasonal memberships will not be available for purchase. However, all available RCN memberships granting full facility access will be offered at a reduced rate of approximately 50% of the original price for July, August, and September. Membership rates will return to full price in October 2024, and a revised rate sheet will be provided each month to assist with any questions.

This project is a crucial step in maintaining and enhancing the quality of the Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium, and we are confident that these improvements will significantly benefit your overall experience.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to make these exciting improvements. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at ParksHelpDesk@PearlandTX.gov.
Why are we doing it?
A study was conducted in 2021 that identified items that were at or near life expectancy. These items were prioritized as part of this project to extend the longevity of the facility.
What’s the difference between this closure and annual facility maintenance closure?
Whereas this closure is to replace and repair major pieces of the natatorium facility, the annual closure is a period for the staff to deep clean and care for preventative measures at a much smaller scale. The annual closure is for a 1 week period, and this closure is covering a larger time frame.
Why can’t the facility remain open?
Due to the complexity of this project, the pools will be fully drained for a large portion of the project. Multiple steps are taking place during this time in concert with one another that do not allow for operation of the pools, heaters, or HVAC systems for example.
Can I purchase a membership during this time?
Memberships may be purchased, and will be offered at a reduced rate for the months of July, August and September. Restrictions include: _________.
Can I see the work in progress?
For the safety of our staff and patrons, access to the natatorium is restricted to contractors and City’s designated projects team.
Where can I get updates on the project?
Subscribe to the department’s newsletter, and follow us on social media. Updates on the project will be shared via department website at pearlandparks.com.
Does the City have any other pools?
The City does not operate any other pools in Pearland. However, there are 2 splash pads located at Centennial Park and Southdown Park. Hours and operations are as follows:
Southdown Park:
April 1st through Oct. 1st | 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Centennial Park:
April 1st through Oct. 1st | 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
