Recreation Center Facility Rules
Class Rules and Etiquette:
- Equipment Care: Treat our group exercise equipment with TLC. Gently put it back where it belongs after class.
- Arrive on Time: Join your favorite classes a bit early to snag your spot and avoid disruptions once the class starts.
- Be Mindful: Be mindful of others space and be welcoming to newcomers. We are all here to get our workout on and enjoy ourselves!
- Be Respectful: Keep excess noise and horseplaying to a minimum. This can be distracting to other participants and the instructor and can lead to major safety issues.
Room Rules:
- Group exercise rooms are locked when not in use. Rooms remain locked until 15 minutes before a class begins or when the instructor has arrived.
- Rooms can be utilized by members if there are no classes or programs scheduled at that time.
- It is required that there are at least 2 people inside the room. One being 18+ and the other at the minimum age of 12 as per our RCN facility age requirements.
- Organized user groups larger than 5 that are not in current agreement with the Fitness Specialist, are not permitted to use the rooms.
- Examples of non-permitted user groups are dance teams, sports teams, training by non-City of Pearland contractors, etc.
- Room users are not to use the equipment in the closets.
- Equipment may be checked out at the Welcome Center. The user is responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.
- Drinks must be in re-sealable containers. No food, gum, or tobacco.
- Keys, wallets, bags, and other personal items are recommended to be stored in lockers.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language or gestures. Good sportsmanship is expected.
- Closed-toe athletic shoes required on court. Shirts must be worn at all times without vulgar words or pictures.
- When others are waiting, games are limited to the first team to achieve 11 points or game runs 10 minutes, whichever comes first.
- No hanging on basketball goals or equipment. Improper use of equipment is strictly prohibited.
- Patrons may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at the facility without an agreement from the city.
- Childcare is for ages 6 months to 11 years with a 2-hour maximum visit, per day. Guardian must sign children in and out for each visit and remain in the facility.
- Children ages 2 and up must wear shoes at all times. Children under 2 must wear socks.
- Guardian is responsible for diaper changes.
- No outside food, drinks (except baby bottles), toys, strollers, sports equipment or other personal belongings are permitted in the Kidz Korner.
- After 15 minutes of continuous crying or poor behavior, guardians will be called.
- Respect the privacy of others using the locker rooms. The use of cellphones or cameras is prohibited.
- Report any facility problems, injuries, or suspicious behavior to the RCN staff immediately.
- The city is not responsible for lost or stolen items. See Welcome Center staff to reserve a locker and/or purchase a lock.
- Please leave the handicap-accessible facilities for those who need them.
- Wear appropriate footwear at all times.
- Approved swimwear is required: no compression shorts, street clothes, denim or cotton materials.
- Food, gum, tobacco and drinks in non-resealable containers are prohibited.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language or gestures.
- Use of the locker room is a privilege. Those who break any of the above-listed rules are subject to disciplinary action including suspension and/or termination from the recreation center and natatorium.
- Children age 6 and under may use locker rooms with parent or guardian present. Family changing room is also available.
- Keys, wallets, bags, and other personal items must be on person or in lockers.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language, or gestures. Standing or sitting on tables and windows is not permitted.
- Athletic equipment is not to be used in this area.
- Shirts must be worn at all times without vulgar words or pictures.
- Patrons may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at the facility without an agreement from the city.
- Equipment may be checked out at the Welcome Center. Patron is responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.
- Drinks must be in re-sealable containers. No food, gum or tobacco.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language or gestures, good sportsmanship is expected.
- Closed-toe athletic shoes required on court. Eye protection is strongly advised. Shirts must be worn at all times.
- Court reservations can be made online. Reservations get first priority. Courts are limited to 1 hour of playing time when patrons are waiting.
- Courts are for racquetball, wallyball and volleyball only.
- Patrons may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at the facility without an agreement from the city.
The Pearland Recreation Center & Natatorium has two courts available to reserve on a first-come, first-served basis. Both courts are scheduled on the hour in one hour increments. Reservations may be made online up to one week in advance and a maximum of 3 reservations can be scheduled in a day.
Book a Court
- Drinks must be in re-sealable containers. No food, gum or tobacco.
- Keys, wallets, bags and other personal items are recommended to be stored in lockers.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language or gestures. Standing or sitting in windows is not permitted.
- Shirts must be worn at all times without vulgar words or pictures.
- Spectators are not permitted to hang on the railing or stop while in the track lanes. Do not throw any items over the railing.
- Walk/run only in the direction of the arrow signaled. Walk on the inside lanes; run on the outside lanes.
- Improper use of exercise equipment is strictly prohibited. Must be 16 or older to use equipment without a parent or guardian.
- Patrons may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at the facility without an agreement from the city.
Track Courtesy
- Stay in Your Lane: When using the indoor track, stick to your chosen lane for running or walking to keep the flow smooth.
- Pass with Care: If you're passing someone, give a friendly heads-up or a little wave to let them know you're coming by.
- Earphone Etiquette: If you're grooving to music, just make sure your earphones aren't blaring loud enough for the whole track to hear.
- Must be 16 or older to be in the weight room without a parent or guardian.

- Keys, wallets and other personal items must be on person or in lockers. Bags and other large items must be hung up on the wall or in lockers.
- No horseplay, profanity, vulgar language or gestures.
- Closed-toe athletic shoes required. Shirts must be worn at all times without vulgar words or pictures.
- Please wipe down equipment after each use.
- Return all weights to racks. Equipment may not be removed from the weight room.
- Patrons may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at the facility without an agreement from the city.
Weight Room Etiquette
- Share the Love: Feel free to work in and share the equipment with others waiting.
- Wipe It Down: After using a machine or bench, give it a quick wipe to leave it clean for the next person.
- Keep the Noise Down: We're all about motivation, but let's keep the volume at a respectful level.
- Return Weights: When you're done, please re-rack your weights. It helps everyone find what they need faster.
Guidelines & Policies
Appropriate behavior is expected from all participants, members and observers in programs and in facilities to protect the enjoyment and safety of all patrons. Therefore, The City of Pearland Parks and Recreation Department has developed the Behavior Policy.
Behaviors that will not be accepted include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Endangering the health and safety of other members, participants, patrons or staff.
- Disrupting a program or creating a disturbance at a facility.
- Continuous refusal to follow program and/or facility rules and guidelines.
- Use of verbal harassment, profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, or racial slurs.
- Blatant disrespect of staff and program or facility rules and guidelines.
- Damage, vandalism, or theft of private or City facilities, equipment or supplies.
- Possession or use of illegal substances or medication, including the use of alcohol or smoking where prohibited.
- Inappropriate or offensive dress, including, but not limited to, dress which is too revealing and clothing which displays obscene or offensive words or pictures.
- Possession or threat of a weapon.
- Gang activity including display or possession of symbols, hand signals, soliciting membership, intimidating or threatening and individual, wearing or displaying colors or items of dress, etc.
- Inappropriate display of affection, including but not limited to prolonged kissing and touching of any private area of the body.
The following outlines steps that may be used with patrons who are not behaving appropriately. Program and/or membership fees will not be refunded for any person removed from a program, league or facility due to violation of this behavior policy. Some programs and/or leagues may have stricter or more detailed behavior policies.
Facilities
All facility participants and members are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.
Observers
Observers of programs and guests of facilities are also expected to behave appropriately. Parents, friends and any other observers are held to the same standards of behavior as program participants and members. If inappropriate behavior of a program observer or guest is reported to, or witnessed, by a staff person, the observer will be asked to leave by the staff or police, if necessary.
Appeals
Any participant who is suspended or terminated from program participation and/or membership shall have the right to appeal to the Recreation Superintendent within fourteen (14) days of any notice of suspension or termination. The Recreation Superintendent shall there upon schedule a meeting concerning such appeal, and the appellant shall be entitled to present his or her version of the facts at such meeting. Within five (5) days after such meeting, the Recreation Superintendent shall notify the appellant in writing that the suspension or termination has been affirmed, modified, or reversed. The Recreation Superintendent shall notify the original meeting participants of the meeting and the decision.
- Parent/Guardian (18 years or older) must accompany all youth 9 years of ages and younger, at all times throughout the facility.
- Upon entering the facility, all members, 10 years of age and older, are required to scan their access key at RCN Welcome Center or Natatorium Kiosk.
- Members between the ages of 12-15 years of age, are required to complete a fitness orientation to utilize the weight room.
- Parks & Recreation may restrict the number of Trial Pass or Swim Pass users enter the facility during any one business day within its sole discretion.
- During use of the Recreation Center & Natatorium, all members and pass users will refrain from engaging in loud, foul or slanderous language.
- Members and pass users will comply with the PARD dress code for proper attire on facility premises. In addition, for safety reasons, PARD may post recommended, but not required, attire. For example, PARD recommends shower shoes or sandals in all wet tile areas and eye guards during racquetball activities.
- No member or pass user may coach or train other members or pass users (as determined solely by PARD). Members may not engage in any type of business or commercial activity while at PARD facilities.
- Members should not bring valuables, including money, onto the facility premises, lockers or parking areas. Each member understands and agrees that PARD will not be liable for the loss, theft of, damage to, the personal property of members or pass users.
- Members and pass users may not bring illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages onto facility premises.
- Members and pass users will abide by any additional PARD rules and regulations posted at the facility.
Recreation Center Minimum Facility Age Requirements
- 16 years +: Full use of Recreation Center & Natatorium with freedom to participate in health & fitness classes.
- 12 years: Facility access without adult present*
- 10 - 11 years: Allowed access to the facility without direct supervision; however, a parent, guardian or adult (18 years of age or older) must be present within the facility.
- 9 years and younger: Required to be accompanied by an adult throughout the facility, at all times.
*Fitness Access - Youth Members, 12 to 15 years of age, have the opportunity to utilize the weight room or attend fitness classes with a parent present. Additionally, successful completion of a Fitness Orientation is required to utilize the weight room.
Natatorium Minimum Facility Age Requirements
- 16 years+ - Full use of the Natatorium
- 12-15 years – Allowed access to the Natatorium; however, a parent/guardian/adult must be present with the RCN facility.
- 6-11 years – allowed access to the Natatorium; however, a parent/guardian/adult must be present on deck within the Natatorium.
- 5 years and younger – Required to be accompanied by an adult in the water at all times within arm’s reach.
At any given time, a patron/child may be asked to perform a swim test to demonstrate the level of ability to swim without a life jacket. If participant does not pass the swim test, they may/will be required to wear a life jacket while using the natatorium. If a child cannot swim without a life jacket a parent must be present in water.
Life jackets are provided for patrons/children for use at the Natatorium.
